| A
New Vision of Excellence
Guide to
Giving
CMU invites our
many supporters to participate in the unprecedented New Vision of
Excellence campaign.
This campaign
will secure CMU’s place as a student-focused university that is
recognized for excellence in undergraduate and graduate education,
professional teacher preparation, public service, and niche-area
applied research and scholarship.
This guide
covers a variety of ways you can give to the university while
accomplishing your short- and long-term personal or corporate
financial goals.
Outright
Gifts
Outright or
current gifts are available for immediate use by CMU. They are the
most common contributions, and they are essential to the success of
any fund-raising effort.
The basis for
outright gifts typically is a three to five-year pledge. Few people
are in a position to make significant sacrificial one-time gifts. By
carefully planning a multi-year pledge, most individuals can make a
gift that is many times larger than any single-year commitment.
Pledge payments may be regular or sporadic and may escalate during
the pledge period.

Future
Gifts
Future or
deferred gifts allow donors to retain their interest in assets. The
charitable use of these gifts by not-for-profit entities is deferred
to some future time.

Financial
Advisors
The information
linked above summarizes only some of the ways individuals can make a
charitable gift to Central Michigan University.
Because each
individual’s tax situation is unique, and because tax laws are
subject to change, it always is advisable to obtain the professional
services of an attorney, accountant, trust officer, personal
financial planner, or another professional for individual estate
planning and tax consultation. These experts can help you determine
the most advantageous ways to accommodate your personal
philanthropic goals as well as your short- and long-term individual
or corporate financial needs.
We would be
very pleased to discuss these various gift plans with you and your
advisor(s).
A personal
illustration on all types of gifts can be provided without any
obligation. The illustration will provide for you the tax benefits
and describe in detail how these gifts will benefit you and CMU.
