Capital Campaign Goals
Enhanced Campus Environment - $20 Million

Central Michigan University is catalyzing learning, research, creative activity, and community service with technologically advanced new facilities and exciting plans for the future. Each of CMU’s campus improvement projects – ongoing and planned – offers many philanthropic opportunities.

Health Professions Building – $10 million
A state-of-the-art new facility to serve citizens and prepare students

This 176,000-square-foot new facility at the heart of Central Michigan University’s campus provides an advanced learning environment for more than 2,200 students in more than 18 health-related undergraduate and graduate programs.

The resources available through the new Health Professions Building, combined with CMU’s educational and community partnerships, enable faculty, students, alumni, and others to make significant contributions toward improving the health of citizens in Michigan‘s rural and underserved communities. The building also allows students in the health professions and related programs to experience learning in an interdisciplinary setting using state-of-the-art technology.

The state of Michigan paid $37.5 million of the estimated $50 million cost of the new building, and CMU is raising an additional $12.5 million, mainly through private donations.

A $5 million pledge from The Herbert H. And Grace A. Dow Foundation in Midland – the largest in CMU history – energized the fund-raising campaign and inspired others to support the project.

Many naming opportunities remain available in the new Health Professions Building.

Events Center – $8 million
One location for a multitude of university and community activities

This high-priority facility will be used for a variety of university and community-related activities. The estimated cost will be $45 million, of which a minimum of $8 million is to be raised through private donations.

The Events Center will provide one location for commencement activities, athletic programs, special events, concerts, receptions, exhibits, and community activities. It will fill an important need for an improved venue for Central Michigan University’s NCAA Division I basketball program. Basketball currently is housed in the Rose Center, which originally was designed as a teaching facility.

Opportunities for special support will be available to enable the university to fully develop and equip the Events Center to serve the needs of students, athletes, and the Central Michigan University community.

Digital television – $2 million
A broadcasting and higher education revolution

CMU currently operates the largest university-licensed Public Broadcasting network in the nation, with six television stations and seven radio stations that reach audiences throughout Michigan, neighboring states, and Canada.

In response to a congressional mandate that all television broadcast stations must convert to digital technology, CMU Public Broadcasting is implementing a phased-in conversion plan.

With this exciting new high definition, multiband television broadcasting technology, CMU will have the capacity to simultaneously broadcast multiple programs and to deliver supplemental educational materials – such as video and audio clips, images, and text documents – for individuals to download in their homes. This will dramatically increase the university’s capacity to provide distance learning for Michigan residents and to partner with schools, businesses, and communities.

Costs for this project are estimated at $10 million. The CMU Board of Trustees has approved $4 million toward the project. Additional funding is anticipated from state and/or federal sources. Philanthropic investments of $2 million will complete conversion financing.
